Howard County Adoption and Guardianship Attorneys

Serving Howard County, Baltimore County, and Anne Arundel County, Maryland

Adoption and guardianship are two very important issues which may be resolved under Maryland family law. If you are interested in securing a legal adoption or guardianship, you will need the help of a capable family lawyer. At the Law Office of Silverman & Cook, L.L.C., we have focused on family law for almost ten years and we can provide knowledgeable and skilled representation for those with adoption or guardianship needs.

Adoption

Circuit courts handle adoptions in Maryland. Each county in Maryland has a separate Circuit Court. In some counties, all judges hear adoption cases and in others a single judge hears them. Usually, there are no hearings until the time of the adoption finalization at which time the final order granting the adoption is made. The adoptive parent or parents and the child are required to attend this final hearing.

If you live or work in the Howard County area and you are interested in adoption, please contact a Howard County adoption attorney at our firm who can assist you through the legal adoption process.

Guardianship

A guardian is in charge of a child's welfare, including such needs as shelter, education, and health care. Guardians may also provide financial management if a child has assets.  Guardianships provide a legal relationship between a child and an adult who is not the child's parent. However, the child's biological parents still maintain a legal obligation toward the child. The biological parents are still legally responsible to provide financial support for the child.

If you are interested in securing the guardianship of a child or of a senior citizen who has been declared by the courts to be incapable of making his or her own decisions, please consult with a Howard County guardianship lawyer at our firm. Our family lawyers are well-versed in all facets of guardianship issues and we will make every effort to achieve a positive outcome for your case.
